Krista Renae Stone, a 23-year-old resident of Salt Lake City, has pleaded guilty to orchestrating a murder-for-hire through the dark web in 2023. Court documents reveal that Stone utilized bitcoin, a form of cryptocurrency, to facilitate a payment of $5,000 for the criminal act. Spanning from March to September 2023, Stone visited a website that offered services for hiring hitmen, sharing comprehensive details about the intended victim, which included a photograph, precise location information, and specific instructions regarding the execution of the murder. Stone is scheduled to be sentenced on July 15. This particular case is an integral part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that aims to combat and diminish instances of violent crime and gun-related offenses.
