The UK High Court has issued a Worldwide Freezing Order (WFO) against Craig Wright, amounting to £1.548 million (approximately $1.98 million USD). This decision follows an application by Peter McCormack, who argued that the WFO was necessary due to Wright’s fraudulent defamation claim. Wright, who famously claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, had sought damages from McCormack over allegedly defamatory remarks. The court determined that Wright’s claim was fraudulent and supported by forged documents, raising concerns about the dissipation of assets.
Despite Wright’s objections, which included disputing the necessity of the WFO and assurances of his compliance, Justice James Mellor concluded that the WFO and associated enforcement measures were crucial to safeguard McCormack’s potential recovery of legal expenses. The ruling also mandates disclosure of assets and enforcement in various jurisdictions including Australia, Seychelles, Antigua, and Singapore.
