President Joe Biden Expresses Gratitude to Nigerian Leader for Assistance in Securing ExFederal Agents Release

President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for successfully securing the freedom of Tigran Gambaryan, an American citizen who had previously served in law enforcement and worked for Binance. Gambaryan had been held in Nigerian custody for a period of eight months, during which his health deteriorated and allegations of mistreatment by prison officials emerged, leading to widespread demands for his release. Throughout his time in detention, Gambaryan received support from various quarters, including lawmakers and government officials in the United States, who actively urged the Biden administration to recognize him as a hostage. Additionally, Biden commended the progress achieved through the newly established Bilateral Liaison Group on Illicit Finance and Cryptocurrencies, a collaborative initiative between the United States and Nigeria aimed at combating financial crimes and money laundering.
