Sam Bankman-Fried May Potentially Be Released Four Years Ahead of Schedule

Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in a fraud scheme involving the misappropriation of customer funds to his hedge fund, Alameda Research. According to a Business Insider report, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) estimates that he could be released as early as December 14, 2044, which would be more than four years earlier than his original sentence if he qualifies for good conduct time and participates in certain prison programs.

Bankman-Fried was convicted on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy, with prosecutors revealing that he and his executives funneled approximately $11 billion in customer assets. His former girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, who was also involved in the scheme, received a two-year sentence and is expected to be released in May 2026.
