New Hampshire Attorney General Joins Appeals to Recognize Imprisoned Former Federal Agent as a Hostage

A group of 17 state attorneys general, led by New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella, is urging the Biden Administration to officially recognize Tigran Gambaryan, an American citizen who is currently being detained, as a hostage. The attorneys general are expressing grave concern for Gambaryan’s well-being and safety, as he has been held in Nigeria for an extended period without any formal charges being filed against him.

Gambaryan, a former IRS law enforcement officer, joined Binance with the intention of helping the company comply with U.S. legal standards. His detention in Nigeria has sparked international alarm, prompting his family and U.S. officials to call for his immediate release. The Nigerian government’s failure to present Gambaryan for a recent court hearing has only intensified concerns about his treatment.

The attorneys general firmly believe that designating Gambaryan as a hostage will facilitate the allocation of necessary resources and diplomatic pressure, ultimately leading to his prompt and safe release.
