Gallup Poll: Real Estate and Gold Remain the Preferred Long-Term Investments in the United States

Gallup Poll: Real Estate, Gold Shine as Investment Options in the U.S.

According to a recent Gallup poll, real estate is still the preferred long-term investment option for U.S. citizens, while gold has surpassed stocks, which traditionally reached second place. 37% estimate that real estate is the best option, while 24% believe in gold instead. Crypto registers a marginal preference, with only 4%.

A recent Gallup poll has given insight into the results of the Trump administration’s policies on the concept of investment and the best long-term instruments.

The poll, which consulted 1,006 U.S. citizens about their investment preferences during early April, found that real estate remains the preferred option for investing with a long-term mindset, while gold registered a distant second place.

Gallup revealed that 37% of the adults consider real estate as the best long-term investment option, rising marginally from the 36% the option reached last year. Meanwhile, stocks, which were in second place last year with 22%, fell significantly, with only 16% of the polled preferring it.

Instead, gold rose to second place, with 23% of the consulted choosing it over other options. Analysts indicate this is likely due to the unstable macroeconomic conditions and the rally that the precious metal has been experiencing since January, registering several record highs in its prices.

Cryptocurrency, while jumping to the spotlight this year due to the push that President Trump made to bitcoin and crypto mainstream, still lacks special appreciation from U.S. citizens. Only 4% considered it a long-term investment, even coming behind bonds, which reached a preference of 5%.

Even with all the buzz surrounding the asset class now, crypto registered its best year back in 2022, when it scored a preference of 8%.

Analysts assess that real estate is well regarded as a solid investment because the asset class is well understood, in the same vein as gold: both are physical and can be appreciated and touched by their owners. Stocks, crypto, and other options still face headwinds getting to potential investors due to their lack of physical presence, which explains these results.
