Ecuador’s data protection agency, the Superintendence of Data Protection, has expressed its inability to evaluate Worldcoin, a biometric initiative linked to universal basic income (UBI), due to a lack of resources. Fabrizio Peralta-Diaz, the agency’s director, voiced his concerns about this predicament, emphasizing the need for essential tools to assess the company’s compliance with national regulations, especially since it was only established three months ago. In a recent interview with local media, Peralta-Diaz pointed out that the efforts of a single individual were insufficient for this undertaking, stating that he required “infrastructure, personnel, and technical reports to provide a foundation for any potential sanctions.”
