On June 4, the FBI released a warning regarding an increase in cryptocurrency scams related to fraudulent work-from-home opportunities. These scammers pretend to be genuine companies and entice individuals with seemingly easy tasks such as clicking buttons or rating services, offering payment through intricate and deceitful crypto-based compensation systems. Often, victims are deceived into making cryptocurrency payments in order to receive additional earnings or access supposed profits, which only benefit the scammers. The FBI strongly advises against making any crypto payments in the context of employment and urges victims to report these scams to their Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
