Scammers in the cryptocurrency world have recently taken control of the official Microsoft India X account, which has a substantial following of over 211,000 people. Their aim was to impersonate Roaring Kitty, a well-known meme stock trader named Keith Gill. The fact that Microsoft India’s X account is verified with a gold checkmark only added to the credibility of the fraudulent posts.
The scammers used the hijacked account to respond to tweets, leading followers and other users to a deceitful website that falsely claimed to offer presales of Gamestop (GME) crypto. This website was specifically created to steal assets from anyone who connected their cryptocurrency wallets and authorized transactions. To make matters worse, a number of bot accounts retweeted the hijacked posts, further spreading the scam and trapping even more unsuspecting victims.
